How to predict Dasa and Antadasa in Vedic Astrology by Maniyan Annadurai for Zaftyg Magazine

The word dasa means a period of time or a limited time a certain planet rules in Vedic Astrology. The planets always rule the importance in human life so the planets always have a period limit on that period planets control the person and became the ultimate decider of Vedic astrology. So in this article I’d love to share some of my knowledge on how to predict each dasa period in a Vedic natal chart.

“In Ayurveda, each of us has a unique mind-body type, known as a dosha. Think of a dosha as your individual blueprint that describes your unique personality, tendencies, and physical nature. Understanding your dosha reveals how to keep yourself in balance to stay happy, healthy and disease free.” – Chopra.com

Before predicting the dasa we have to knew about the karaka of planet for sure..for example if some enter in to sun dasa the sun can rule any  house in chart but the karaka of sun will be government, father, politics, higher status people, electricity  so on the sun dasa this all things activate in person life but it must be good or bad depends upon how much the sun is benefic or malefic in chart. So here we have to check sun rules which lord and sun in which nakshatra and sun in which sign in d9 and sun conjunct or aspect by which planet in d1 so this all factors help to decide what will happen on that dasa.

“Dosha refers to bodily humor (or bio-energy center) in Ayurvedic medicine. The term comes from the Sanskrit dosa, meaning “fault” or “disease.” There are three doshas in total: vata, pitta and kapha. Their energies are believed to circulate in the body and govern physical, mental and emotional characteristics.” – Yogapedia

And when its come to  antadasa  we have to check how the dasa and antadasa lord placed each other like kendra to each other or trine to each other or shashtang(6,8,12) to each other to decide the what will happen in that dasa so that we can tell how the dasa and antadasa is gonna be..and main thing we have to understand is that the antadasa lord need to be friend to dasa lord and also for ascendant lord to decide the benefits level in chart for sure.

Here I like to coordinate all the calculations together in order to decide the prediction on dasa and antadasa for any given chart.

For example:

If someone is Aquarius rising (we’re discussing in Vedic/Sidereal degrees) and an Aquarius Sun and Sun in the Nakshatra of Dhanishtha; and that the Sun is aspected by Jupiter or that Sun is in Saggitarius in their D9 chart (because Jupiter is the traditional ruler of Sagittrius). So what does this mea? Here the Nakshatra of Dhanishta is rule by Mars, so that Mars ruled 3rd and 10th house for Aquarius rising or Ascendant. Here we see when the Sun ‘dasa’ will start automatically and the Aquaius native’s 3rd and 10th house will activate!

The Sun rules over the Aquarius rising native’s 7th house, so therefore the 7th house gets activated in it’s dasa. Sun is the karaka of the father, government, politics, etc. And all the things will get activated in its own time. So here when the Sun is aspected by Jupiter and also when the Sun in a house of Sagittarius in the D9 chart, so all this activation will give positive things to a person in its time.

When its come to  antadasa for this person (Aquarius rising in Sidereal) the Sun, Moon and Mars will not get good results because its all enemy to Asc lord which is Saturn because it rules Aquarius traditionally. Saturn, Rahu, Jupiter, and Mercury will be good antadasa because they are friends to the ascendant lord.

“Antardasha is the extended period of a Mahadasha that is subdivided into various smaller periods. In other words, Mahadashas are divided into nine segments called antardashas, where all the 9 planets have their influence within the major influence of the planet which is a ruler of mahadasha.” Astrobix

Antadasa relationships example

Aries, Leo, Cancer, Sagittarius Pisces Scorpio or also their rulerships traditionally, The Sun, Moon, Mars, and Jupiter are will be good dasa and antadasa for the Aquarius rising native in Sidereal.

Like wise, Mercury, Saturn, Venus are considered as negative and one should consult an expert Jyotish astrologer for the proper gemstone remedy.

Aquarius, Capricorn, Gemini, Virgo, Taurus, Libra: Saturn, Venus and Mercury are considered as good dasa and antadasa.

Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Moon are considered as negative and one should consult an expert Jyotish astrologer for the proper gemstone remedy.

But for both rising with either Rahu or Ketu is considered as good or bad depending on which sign it is which planet conjunct and which planet aspect it.
